Flow Optimization of a High-Dust SCR Unit for a 660 MWe Coal-Fired Power Plant in Turkey

01.11.2016

With the aim of creating the basis for a good DeNOx performance, we performed a CFD simulation study of a high-dust SCR unit. Besides minimizing the pressure drop in the ducting system, strict maldistribution goals upon the catalytic reactor were given, such as in respect to the gas temperature, velocity and NH3/NOx concentration distributions. Additionally, we conducted dust deposition tests and validated the simulation results with a physical flow model (scale 1:15).

As a result, recommendations were made in respect to the ammonia injection grid, static mixer, vanes and flow rectifiers. The plant is currently in operation and performing well.
